This stereo tube preamplifier was produced by JJ Electronic. It is characterized by interesting colors reminiscent me Lotus cars competing in Formula 1 - a mixture of black and gold . I am a fan of Lotus team, so it's no surprise that I like this color combination. The only problem is the inability to take a picture in a way that surrounding objects are not reflected in the golden housing. It is presumed that one of the purposes underlying the company was to promote electron tubes produced by them (the preamplifier has as many as 8 tubes). This has been only partially successfull. Preamplifier certainly served the brand, but rather as an independent audio device, than the device equipped with tubes with JJ logo. In some copies, which I inspected I found tubes from other manufacturers.

Under the name of A. R. Electronics hides Audio Electronics Company - a small workshop producing tube amplifiers in Gdańsk. For the first time I saw a product of this company at the end of the 90-ies of the last century, when I became the happy owner of the amplifier with the symbol SE-41. Unfortunately, I do not know if the company still exists, because for some time I have no information about new A.R. Electronics amplifiers. Anyway, in the secondary market one can meet the A.R. Electronics amplifiers characterized by good sonic parameters and interesting design line. Despite the lack of information in the official offer, A.R. Electronics produce or produced not only amplifiers but also other audio equipment such as tube preamplifiers. They were made to individual order or in a small number of units. To this type of products belongs a tube preamplifier with the symbol PL-02.

PHAST's audio equipment is very well known to our home audiophiles. PHAST name is an acronym for Phase Style, which in 1998 replaced the "Phase" - original name of the company, founded in 1988 in Lviv. Phast's current offer is not too large, but interesting. Includes both power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers and preamplifiers. It is difficult to collect reliable information on device models offered over the years in each group. On the company's website there are presented details only for the latest equipment, and some produced in small quantities and are no longer offered . This report is dedicated to the audio set which consists of two monoblocks based on the famous "devil" output tubes and remote-controlled preamplifier.

Not everyone likes the design of the amplifier. This is not surprising. Aesthetic values are not universal - this is what impresses some, others may not like. As for me, I have mixed feelings. I think that if the Designer was consistent and showed also the output transformers this amplifier would look nicer. But, as I wrote, it's just my subjective opinion.

HAROLD - Retro Style Amplifier

Jacek "Jado" Domański (e-mail : )

The idea to make a small tube amplifier for home use walked with me for a long time. In the absence of spare time I moved the start of a work date indefinitely, but in the end it was "the happy moment" that I could begin construction work. One of the main goals of the project, was to build an amplifier using owned materials and components and bargain shopping  - in other words to bulid an amplifier at minimal cost, but with a significant contribution of my own "labor". Another assumption was, that the amplifier can not be a high energy consumption device - so that the moderate daily use does not cause excessive burden on the household budget. So it had to be something simple ...

Welcome. In this article I would like to present the equipment I recently had the pleasure to commit - Soldano SLO-100. This is my fourth vacuum tube project I have done so far. I think it's the best hardware I build with my soldering iron.

Stereo tube amplifier producedCary Audio Design company. This is not only an US amplifier, but unlike many of such products is not assembled in China, but in the United States of America. A real shock.

Interesting tube monoblocks combine a rational approach from the technical point of view with some audiophile's "bells and whistles". The amplifier (produced by American company Cary Audio Design) that came to my hands probably comes from the early stages of production. I do not know when the first copies appeared - probably around 1994, because at that time Stereophile magazine (01/1994) published a detailed review and measurement results.

Burdjak Area-41

I present photographic documentation of tube amplifier Burdjak Area-41. This is a stereo amplifier based on 6S41S (6C41C) triodes working in non-symmetric configuration (SE). The 6S41S power tubes are relatively rare in commercial applications. The situation is different in DIY amplifiers where 6S41S triodes, being anemic cousins of more powerfull 6S33S tubes are often used. The Burdjak Area-41 amplifier provides a really enjoyable listening experience - it is of course only my subjective opinion.
